Why Not All Fillers Are The Same
That fear is valid. But the part that doesn’t get talked about enough is that not all fillers are the same. That difference is usually what separates a natural, subtle result from something that feels obvious.
A lot of people assume filler is one product, and the only difference is how much you use. That’s not the case. The result you get depends on three things: the product itself, the way it’s used, and who is administering the product. All of these matter a lot more than most people think.
Fillers are made differently depending on what they’re meant to do. Some are thicker and more structured. Others are softer and move more easily with your face. Some are better for adding volume, while others are better for smoothing or refining. So it’s not just about “getting filler” it’s about using the right one in the right place, in a way that makes sense for your face. That’s where a lot of the difference comes in.
Mariah uses the Restylane line for several reasons. This product line has been around for decades and has long term clinical data supporting its use and safety. It contains hyaluronic acid and is safer to inject. It also does not contain any foreign objects: acrylics, permanent synthetic beads, or liquid silicone.
You may have heard about the concern of developing granulomas — an inflammatory reaction when the body’s immune system identifies a derma filler or foreign substance. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are composed of naturally occurring sugar already found in the human body, which makes them highly biocompatible. With an HA filler, the body doesn’t recognize it as an invader, which avoids an inflammatory response or nodule.
Another reason Mariah uses the Restylane line is because of how it’s designed to behave in the face. Restylane actually uses two different types of technology, and this is where things start to make more sense.
NASHA (which stands for Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid) is a bit firmer and more structured.
That makes it useful in areas where you want support or definition—places where you need the filler to hold its shape a little more.
XpresHAn (sometimes called “expression technology”) is softer and more flexible. This type of filler is designed to move with your face instead of sitting stiffly under the skin. This means you can still smile and talk normally, your expressions look natural, and nothing feels tight or overdone.
Having both of these options available means the treatment can be customized in a more thoughtful way. Instead of using the same type of filler everywhere, different products can be used depending on what each area needs. That’s what creates that balanced, natural look, when everything is working with your face instead of against it.
Even with a great product, how it’s used makes a huge difference. A thoughtful approach looks at your face as a whole, not just one area at a time. It takes into account your natural structure, balance between features, and where support is actually needed. A lot of times, less is more. Small, intentional placements can do more than trying to fix everything all at once.
Mariah has a different approach. Her focus isn’t just on how things look it’s also on how people feel. A lot of her clients aren’t trying to look like someone else. They’re coming in because something feels a little off. Regardless of the reason, the goal isn’t to change who you are. It’s to bring things back into balance, or to enhance your natural features.
The best results don’t stand out. They show up in subtle ways. People are surprised to hear your age, ask about your skin care routine or make up, or comment about how rested you look. And for most people, that’s the point.
If you’ve been unsure about filler, that’s a fair concern. There’s a lot out there, and not all of it looks great. But instead of thinking about it as a yes or no decision, it might help to shift the question to, who is doing it and what are they using? Because when the right product is used in the right way, the result doesn’t have to be obvious. It can just help you feel a little more like yourself again. And for a lot of people, that’s what they were looking for all along.
